distance learning and student loans

I'm weighing my options trying to decide wether I should get my gen eds through my local community college or just do them with Excelsior (I attended a nationally accredited school for my LPN so none of my credits will transfer to Excelsior since they are a regionally accredited school:sniff:). My question was anyone able to put their previous student loans in an in school deferment while doing distance learning with Excelsior. I have 2 loan companies...Sallie Mae and Stduent Loan Xpress. If you were not able to do this did you use another method to put your loans of deferement...the only one I know of is financial hardship and doubt I will be able to claim that...all responses are appreciated:specs:

just an update..in case there is anyone else ever in this situation. I talked to my 2 lending companies today and they told me that as long as it is an accredited school (distance, online, or classroom) and your going at least 1/2 time (the college itself determines what is 1/2 time or full-time and so forth) then your loans can be put into an in school deferment. One of the lending companies told me that the best way to determine if it is fully accredited is can the school recieve financial aid funding (so it doesn't matter whether it is nationally or regionally accredited)? If it can then it is fully accredited. Hope this helps anyone in the future looking for answers to this question:tinkbll:

Some people doubt that they cannot pass the exams without RUE/TCN but the test are very passable just reading notes and buying old books. I did not sign with TCN but I bought their modules for test 4-7 and passed them. Not because they were great. I failed 2 out of those 4 and bought the recommended text because some of the info in the modules were too vauge and along with me rushing through my studies. If money is an issue I can see why people would sign with them because its monthly plan but since you need alot of prerequisites, going through TCN will be expensive.

In conclusion, people have success passing the test with these publishing companies and some don't. I know 3 people who signed with TCN that are paying monthly and have not taken the first test. These people also signed several years ago. One guy didn't pay and now he has bad credit. I would say, make it up in your mind that your gonna study and say committed. Thats they only way to get through this program. I did it and so can you. Good luck in your decision.
