Dissertation- Help with my chosen topic and CAM

:)Hi all, firstly thank you for visiting this post to see if you can help me with my literature review

I am currently doing my dissertation research, (proposal only). I have chose to conduct "A study into whether complementary and alternative therapy is incorporated into the treatment regime for the early onset to cancer of the lung". I have introduced my topic and its aims and objectives. However, when I am searching literature on this subject I can find very little if anything that has been done on it, I seem to have found a gap which is a good point but, being an undergraduate I may be conducting my search wrongly?

I do have a supervisor but due to being in practice at this moment in time, I am finding it quite difficult to contact her. It is therefore that I have come to this site to see if there are any CAM nurses or Lung and palliative care nurses that can point me in the right direction please. This is only an 8000 word proposal but I am finding this so difficult.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions or guidance on this topic.

One of my academic colleagues is part way into a PhD looking at CAM and cancer - I'll send you his email address as a PM. I don't know if he'll be able to help you but it may be a start. Good luck :)

You are an absolute diamond. Thank you so much- I am wanting and itching to throw my self into it, but it is a big topic hey  xx

What research methods have you used? I've found a couple of papers via Google's scholar tool, using the terms 'complementary' 'alternative' 'lung' and 'cancer. From the first page I got:

Perhaps the most relevant hit was on the second page: it's titled

"Complementary and alternative medicine use in lung cancer patients in eight European countries"; the link is http://www.ctcpjournal.com/article/S1744-3881(05)00098-8/abstract

I am looking at doing quantitative, using online questionair to analyse my data. This site is invaluable for those of us who are novices in our nursing and we would be doomed without the help of your good selves. I at last have some good litriture to read all afternoon now :redbeathe... Once again thank you x

Can you access EBSCO? If not, then sign up with medscape, which has lots of reports available. Design your PICO question. This stands for population, intervention, comparison, and outcomes. Use these parts of your pico question to conduct searches in your article database. For example, you would search 'early onset lung cancer patients'. Or your intervention 'complementary or alternative therapy in lung cancer'. You may only find one or two articles that are helpful, but look at the list of references for these articles. They will likely have at least a dozen or two articles that cover similar information. hope this helps- good luck!
