disheartened

Nursing Students LPN-RN

So I was all ready to start my LPN to RN bridge through excelsior, even went through admissions, but the more I looked into the program the less I liked what I was seeing. Im not saying its a bad program AT ALL, its just not right for me. I feel more comfortable with that hands on clinical experience, and actually putting in class time.

I am moving to Korea for 2+ years in 18 days and I really liked this program because I would be able to continue from there, but Its just not working out.

so for now I think Im going to work on some general education credits, online, and see where the next two years takes me! Im going to try and get a job on post, which would be a great LPN opportunity. Just feeling a little disheartened! Im moving to be with my husband who is in the military, but its hard putting my career on hold =/

Whatever works best for you go for it. If you feel more comfortable in a classroom setting then go that route. I was in traditional nursing program and felt as though I was just a number. Most of my instructors just read from powerpoints, had attitudes, were no help at all and didn't teach. I could've stayed home and read the book and saved money but attendance was taken every class. Dealing with the classroom drama and I don't even want to start on the clinical instructors. Now granted everyone's experience in school is different good or bad but I would rather read in the comfort of my home and not waste travel time and money. With EC I can read anytime and test anytime. I'm not on someone's schedule but my own. I like the flexibility. It is hard doing it on your own and you have to be super motivated but I'm happy I don't have to deal with the nursing school drama and focus on just studying and taking the exams. Whatever route you decide I wish you the best. :)

thanks for the support! It is much appreciated!! I went through all the admissions for excelsior and was all pumped, but I honestly think I need to be someplace everyday, I get so distracted! and it was expensive, and so far I havent gotten mental health or OB experience, and I really want to go through clinicals in those! how are you liking EC?

For now I'm just reading the required textbooks and plan to take my 1st exam (H&S) in a few weeks. The reading is boring at times but that's to be expected.

I get distracted easily as well and need to be in a quiet area to study so home is best for me. My OB/Psych rotation was bare especially OB. Psych was interesting but I live in New York so you see mentally ill individuals on a daily basis. OB was pretty boring. There were only a few patients our entire time at the hospital so our group didn't observe anything. As you can see I'm not an advocate for the traditional setting but everyone has their own story and others may have had a better experience in nursing school. One piece of advice I would give is keep reading. Since you lack OB/Psych experience, find a good maternal/newborn and psych nursing book and start reading them so you're ahead of the game. Have a safe journey and good luck!:)

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!! Just wanted to say hope you enjoy your stay in Korea..my daughter was over there for 15months teaching english south of Seoul in a city called Daejon..I went over to visit May of 2010 and found it to be very interesting (i was there for about one month):nurse:...but I sure was glad to come home...Just remember that the good thing about EC is if you change your mind agian while overseas it's still an option to you no matter where you are at.
