Recently I was told that I was not being hired because the MD wanted a female RN for "stand-bys". This is in an Occupational Health setting with very few female workers percentage wise. I was more qualified in the Occ Health setting than the RN they did hire. Also, there are six female office workers available for a stand-by role if needed (One is an X-ray tech, another an Audio Tech, and a third an EMT-B).
Is this discrimination or a legal hiring practice?

Hi,
I am yet to fathom the rationale behind this argument:
Discrimination based on race (for example: "We only hire Hispanics") is clearly considered negetive (and "bad").
Discrimination based on gender (for example: "We only hire males") is considered positive/acceptable?
Pray tell why?
Thanks,
Matthew
