Dear Nurse Beth,
I would like to ask your advice. I graduated 3yrs ago from an accelerated LPN program, and never took the test. Personal/Family situations have left me registering and not taking the test twice prior. I have spent SO much money between registration, fingerprinting, etc. that I have made this my last opportunity to take test (3rd time's a charm?)
I've been trying to study, relatively consistent (between f/t job, family, kids, etc..etc...) and yet, I feel like I'm reading things and not retaining.... for example, I'm really hung up on pharm right now... It's been making me wonder if I have waited TOO long since graduation?!
What advice would you give me, and others out there, that didn't test right away? (I am currently in an ATI program, but I really don't feel it's been very beneficial for me) Because honestly, I'm feeling VERY discouraged. Thanks in advance.
Dear Discouraged,
My advice? Start the testing process now (today) and take the exam. The sooner, the better. No delays, no procrastination, no excuses. Just do it.
The studying you are doing right now is not effective or focused. It may seem overwhelming. Waiting is not going to help you.
What's the worst that can happen? Not passing? Not passing will serve to let you know where you stand. Then you can focus your studies anew with a better idea of what the exam entails, and re-test. You'll be out of this limbo you've been in for 3 years.
Best of luck to you. Also - and you will find this out when you apply to test- but states vary on their graduation date to testing date allowances. Hopefully 3 years will be within limits for your state.
Best Wishes,
Nurse Beth

What is an accelerated LPN program?
I don't know..I wonder if it is a program that goes year round, with no summer break? I have seen LPN programs constructed that way. The benefit is you finish sooner.
