Dirt bike camp

Hey there!! I was wondering if anyone has ever been the nurse at a dirt bike (or another off-road vehicle type of camp).

My 15-year-old is an avid dirt bike racer. He is going to camp in a couple weeks and one of the nurses just found out she can no longer go. I've just agreed to fill in as the second camp nurse. I'm a PICU nurse and have no experience with camp nursing.

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom?

Thanks!!

I only have experience with chain saw juggling camp...sorry..

I would advise you to use caution doing skills that are unfamiliar or that you have not been to formal training for. Just because you watched a youtube video or had a really cool guy show you how to do something, like size and apply a c-collar, doesn't mean you should do that skill. C-collar application back boarding, and other skills are not anything I trained to do in nursing school, and I'm sure some ambulance chasing lawyer would love to have you on the stand with no formal training, even if no adverse event occurred directly related to your skills. If its an emergency leave it to the EMT's on the ambulance you're calling anyway. IMHO, I don't do these skills even though I was an EMT for a decade. I am not now an EMT, so it's not something I'm presently trained and certified to do.

Hey Alex, definitely good advice!! I'm TNCC certified and part of the code team at my hospital that responds to all Alpha traumas and code blues. I'm comfortable with C collars, backboards, and immobilizing a patient. I know my limitations though, and I'm not a risk taker, definitely not with someone's kiddo! So no worries there!! I'm all about calling for help when I need it! ( :
