just moving the other thread to its new home. Here's where we talk about issues unique to Master's-entry programs!
Hey guys! How is everyone doing out there? I am enjoying my month long break - even though I wasn't full time- it is much needed one! :)-Jess
We only had 2 weeks off! I relaxed a little, read pleasure books, saw Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia, and visited with family and friends. I'm back at school taking Adult Med Surg. It's the "putting it all together" course which can be a bit challenging. What did I remember about classes I took last summer? It seems so long ago! Hope all is well with you!

Hi friends, for those who have some experience under there belts I am looking for some advice on where to do my synthesis. I am in a direct entry for psych mental health, and I am absolutely sure I love this work and this is what I want to do (all that stuff). My professors do recommend that we try to get experience in our synthesis on things like IVs, tube stuff, meds, since this will really be our final chance to get this all under our belts before the NCLEX. I also agree I need this experience too, although I am sort of dreading it because I really love psych work. Anyway. I would like some advice on a place where I could get this experience and maybe get some interesting psych cases as well, and or a place where I would get a great deal of experience on tubes and IVs and such which out such an intense high paced atmosphere. I guess somewhere where I'd get exposure, but have a little more time to figure things out and learn with out quite as much pressure (I don't mean NO pressure, just something thats more conducive to learning). Is there anyone with any possible suggestions or experiences that may be helpful. I have to choose in two days. Does anyone think I should just do a psych synthesis and be happy?
HELP!

Hi yall. Hope everyones second semester is going well.
My apps are in, I have a (phone) interview scheduled with JHU, and now I guess I just have to sit tight and wait for a couple of months. Aahhh!
In the meantime I'm taking stats (an entire semester's worth in 4 weeks, wow) and A+P2. But the suspense is killing me already!
And how's this for ridiculous: Simmons will not consider my app because I cannot obtain a transcript for ONE community college class in programming that i took EIGHT YEARS ago. I've talked to anyone who will answer the phone there and they will not make an exception. The CC seems to not be able to find my records, so no transcript. How silly is that?!
that's a bummer about simmons! Is it a computer programming class? weird. i am starting there in May in their Accelerated BSN program. they are so friendly and easy going, so that's weird that they're being such a stickler. then again, what's up with a college that can't find your transcript!!!
i wish you luck!
Hi Smile! Wow- only two weeks off- that's so quick. These programs really go at lightening speed. Hope you are doing well.
Janony- Congrats about JHU- bummer about Simmons. Is the computer programming class really all that important to your app? Is it being counted as a pre req or something? That's just weird. And eight years ago too- you would think they wouldn't even count stuff that was older than 5. Sorry you are running into a bueracratic roadblock.
Hi BCZito- I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. That's a toughie:( I would be tempted to say do a psych synthesis- because you are so sure of your specialty. But if a more general med-sug kind of emphasis will really give you a leg up on NCLEX too, well there's a good argument for that kind of synthesis. What about some kind of inpatient psych facility like McLean or somthing where you may get IVs and certainly meds- though maybe not so much tubes and that kind of stuff? Good luck making your decision.

Hey my gorgeous girls (and maybe boys, I dunno). Y'all got two weeks to a month off? We got five days. Well, plus the two weekends on either side, but still. We had our last final on Thursday afternoon before Xmas and had to be back on the 2nd. So there. I'm doing my community rotation now, at a women's med. security prison. I could not be more bored. The nurses have us updating charts to prepare for their accreditation. I took a couple of blood pressures last week. Seriously. That's...it, for five days of clinical. Lord, I can't wait for OB. Two more weeks....

Ugh- sorry, sounds dreadful. Hang in there. OB will be fun I bet!
I can't believe what a tiny break you guys got- woah. I feel so out of it, I've been out of school for so long! My kids are driving me nuts- it will be good to have a once a week diversion with grownups. I'm taking advanced pharm this semester, nursing research in the summer and then clinicals in the fall! Yay! Can't wait for that.

Hi yall
OK, so I got into Hopkins! Yay. Not sure that I want to move to Baltimore, but I'm so relieved that I at least got in somewhere. :-) There's someone here that goes there, right? Who was that? How do you like it?
There is an admitted students day on March 3. That's not a great day for me to visit (I have to be away that weekend, so it'd be alot of traveling), but I'm thinking I should probably go. Hmmmm.

Hi Janony,
Congrats on getting into Hopkins! You don't have to go to accepted students day, but it's nice if you want to visit the campus, listen to some panels, meet some of your fellow students, etc. But it's totally optional. If you have never been to Baltimore, it's a convenient way to check it out. Otherwise, you can arrange to meet 1:1 with the staff later on in the spring. They are always showing students around.
They have an orientation in June (it's usually 2 days) where a lot of the same info is gone over in more detail. It's a little early to find an apt because landlords only have knowledge 30 days in advance for vacancies, so it's not the best time to find housing.
It's fast paced, intense, and you'll feel as though you are on information overload at times, but hey, that's why it's the accel'd program. Or did you opt for the traditional program, which is 2 years instead of 13.5 months?
Are you waiting for a few more places? Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the info, Smile. I think I actually am accepted into the traditional program - I applied for the accelerated (checked off the boxes for both) but did not have all my reccomendations in on time for the accelerated deadline(grrrr). I guess i'll see exactly what my letter says - really either one would be okay with me. I was so distracted when they called me that I forgot to ask what exactly I'd be accepted for!
I'm still waiting on the 4 boston schools I applied to - I live in Boston right now. I have an interview with Northeastern next week. Haven't heard from anywhere else yet.
