The old thread seems to be closed...either it was too long or I shouldn't have been dispensing exam tips...

So the new one is born...

I *just* got the call (well... maybe 15, 20 minutes ago) from my #1 choice, and I'm happy to say that I'll be joining the Samuel Merritt College ELMSN-FNP program this fall.

At least... I hope it was real! I almost cried on the phone because I was so happy... but I guess I'll know for sure next week if the package arrives in the mail.

So I'll be Oakland-bound this fall. I'm a little scared... but I'm really looking forward to it. =)

congratulations karmyk!!!

So jealous! That's my neck of the woods. I mean, I'm fairly happy (this week!) with Columbia and NY, but I still miss my East Bay...

Congrats to all who have gotten their letters. I can't believe it was a year ago that I was screaming like a banshee after opening my Columbia letter (are they are still putting it in a "you've been rejected"-looking envelope?).

They used to - but the NP accrediting body changed the rules so Peds Acute Care has to have a program that Columbia didn't like - so you can do Peds and then Rita will find you a PICU placement for your final elective. Still kinda sucks, though...

Congrats on the exam! Have you done your project yet? Ours took so much more work than I thought it would!

I wasn't really impressed with the options that Rita presented. I am already lacking in experience. The last thing I need is for my only acute care experience to be a brief elective. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go ACNP and then get the hospital to pay for a post master's in peds (although at times the idea of more school makes me want to hurl). I think with those two I would be wicked prepared to work in transport or ER (the two things I'm most interested in).

Our whole class is doing projects on monday. 6 hours of presentations ranks right up there with 6 hours of lecture. I can't wait

Yes - the acceptance letters are still deceivingly thin!!

I really thought it was a denial letter!!

I almost threw mine out - I had already been rejected from the 2 other schools I'd applied to. Then there was screaming, and jumping, and more screaming. Then my daddy said the sweetest thing "The look on your face right now is why I love being a father." Awwwwwww.

Hey yall

So I was just about all decided that i'm going to go to BC (though I haven't gotten any financial aid info yet) and I get a letter from MGH - offering me a $30,000 merit scholarship.

That brings the cost of the two programs more in line with each other - and $30,000 is awfully tough to just turn down!

Decisions, decisions!

Maybe I should call BC and ask for a counter-offer. ;-)

Woo hoo!!!:balloons: :balloons: Congrats on your scholarship- that's amazing! I got into both of those schools, and got a merit scholarship from BC, but nothing from MGH. So I think it's probably likely you will get an award from BC as well. Couldn't hurt to ask!

Aw man good luck! I felt the same way about Columbia's scholarship...I was looking at it thinking Am I really going to turn this down??!!

Especially since the other school's offer didn't seem like much! (I have since looked at in terms of percentages and feel a lot better about it, but still, LOL)

Congrats, janony!

I'm in your boat; I received an acceptance letter from Simmons on the same day I recieved notice of the $30,000 scholarship from MGH. I opened Simmons first and thought -- OK, now I have to make a hard decision between Simmons and MGH. Then I opened MGH and thought (after steadying myself from nearly keeling over) -- OK, I guess that decision is made!

But of course, I still feel like I should try to weigh the programs on their individual merits, not just the cash... What to do?!
