Direct Entry MSN 2020 at Columbia University

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone, The applications for June 2020 at Columbia University has now opened. I haven't seen any new threads for this year so I wanted to start one. I am in the process of applying and half way done! References already sent their recommendations!! and an upside to this year is that Columbia University is no longer requiring the GRE. SO I am pretty happy about that!!

Good Luck!

hi everyone!

I am applying to the MDE/DNP program specifically for pediatrics for June 2021.

I know Columbia uses a holistic approach when it comes to looking at applications, but I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing their stats (even if they did not get in or if they just got into the MDE program)?

My stats:

Graduating from Penn State in 3.5 years with my B.S in neuroscience psychology Fall 2020. Hopefully by the time I graduate my GPA is around 3.3 (maybe a 3.4). My prerequisite GPA is possibly 4.0 just have to take nutrition and Microbiology, otherwise shouldn't be lower than a 3.75. I have done research since freshman year and am a research assistant, I volunteered in both inpatient and outpatient physical therapy clinics, was the captain of the women's tennis team, have been a tennis instructor for about 5 years, this Summer I will be attending Duke's DPT Summer discovery program, and since freshman year been apart of THON (the worlds largest student run philanthropy raising millions of dollars a year to help children impacted with pediatric cancer). I have a bunch more leadership experiences and extracurriculars, however, those are the main ones.

I think your stats are good. start focusing on your personal statement so by the time you apply all you gotta do is put your info and hit submit.

Hi everyone!

I want to get a head start on my personal statement, as well as any additional essay questions asked. Does anyone remember any of thee questions?

the online essay question is random so everyone got a different question to answer on the spot and I think the question is generated right there and then. then they give you 10min to write a response. aside from the personal statement, you’ll have more than enough time, between the day that they post the application and the earliest day to submit, to answer and fill everything out.

as a substitute for the mde interview, you have to record a video. they ask you to talk about a time where you were faced with a challenging situation and discuss how you were able to overcome it (this may not be the exact question but it’s similar, LOL)

also think about whether or not you’d like to participate in one of the global initiatives and why.

Thank you so so much!

Hi everyone,

I’ll be reaching out to financial aid with my question of course but I figured I should ask:

Was anyone’s award letter altered this morning? Something told me to log in and check and my scholarship and loans are gone and I’m not sure why considering all my paperwork and documentation are in and current.

I just checked and my awards/loans are gone from the dashboard but the documents section still says all things have been received, etc., seems like maybe an internal thing with Columbia as I doubt they are revoking our student loans ?

Let us know if FinAid has any advice!

Thank you!!

Yeah, I think they are making some internal changes especially with the new Fed loan rate that just came out recently. Don’t worry too much about it. Columbia is not taking back the scholarship or loans.

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the reassurance! ?
