Hello all,
Its been mentioned before about ending our thread and starting a new one. Think it was tried a few months ago.
Maybe it is time now, seeing as the thread is 72 pages long. That is sort of hard for a new reader to sift through to see where we are now, don't you agree?

p.s. still waiting for my interview information! agh
I would start by contacting the Board of Nursing (BON) for the state of Florida. Good luck!
Hi, far out that was quick. Im new on this thing as you probably guessed. How do you think I should go about finding a job in the healthcare industry? I think I need someone to sponsor me to be able to work until me and my fiance get married. Its driving me crazy not being able to do anything about this mess.

Hi Cazhumb,
Nice to read you. I think there is also a forum on this website for 'foriegn' nurses and issues related to working in the states.
I hope that there is lots of assistance for your questions here.

Hi Everyone!
Sorry I've been absent lately- been really busy at home training our new nanny who will watch my girls while I'm in school this summer. You guys, I'm totally stressing about leaving my sweet little babies! Am I crazy for doing this with kids so young?!
Gen- congrats on your interview! I'm sure you did awesome and no, I think your thank you email was fine. No issue in tooting your own horn when the competition is so steep, you know?
Elizabells and Bruinlaura- I can't believe you guys are starting so soon! Craziness!!! Have fun and try not to stress- there will be plenty of that to go around once you actually start your program!! LOL How fun that you guys "met" here and will be classmates!
Smile- you are starting this summer too, right?
cazhumb- Welcome to the site! That can be frustrating getting sponsorship. Unless you are able to work in an area that has a shortage of applicants with your particular skills- it can be hard to find an employer who will be willing to take the effort and cost of sponsorship. Contacting your BON is a great start. From your post though, you're not a nurse yet, right? Just want to work in healthcare while you go back to school to finish your RN? I would look into CNA training programs and maybe contact some nursing agencies - like the ones who provide travelling nurses. They may have info on employers who will sponsor you if they don't do it themselves. Another thought is that it may be easier to get a job if you are actually in a program already- through your school, you know? I'm not sure what provisions nursing schools have for international students- but it seems like they must have some, you know? Anyway, good luck!

Jess,
Good luck!! Your sweet little ones know thier mommie loves them a whole lot!! I am sure the new nanny knows this too. The nanny sounds like a great idea! I was a live-in nanny for a year and really had a vested interest in the child's well-being and happiness and security. I think you chose the right option!! Nannies are your partner and hopefully you will feel very comfortable knowing that your children and growing in a safe manner with a non-stranger, someone in your home.
You are still mom and #1!!
Now, you go for it Jess!! Change is tough but you are ready!

Hi Jess,
Yes, I start June 2nd! I just had my garage sale today and in 2 weeks I'm driving out from California to attend Johns Hopkins (Baltimore, MD). It's coming up so fast!!!
Have fun watching your girls! You'll be in a program this fall you feel passionate about! It will be totally worth it! Your kids know you love them even if you cannot be there as often as you'd like.

I got a pair of Dansko Professional clogs too. I like them! I think they look cute! They will be great to wear in the hospital. What color and style did you get?Smile123
I had to get white - did you get a choice? I got the open backs because the closed back ones would drive me crazy(er) I think. The guy at the store told me he could always tell the first-time nursing students because we pick them up and wrinkle our noses, and we always get white. Apparently 'real' nurses get to pick colors! Can't wait for those red/black ones! You know, the ones that look like red shoes that got polished with black by accident? Oh, maybe those look too much like blood. Hm.

Hey Elizabells,
White, eh? Those are going to be hard to keep clean! (I hope you are not going to have to polish them a lot!) We had to get dark blue or white shoes with a closed back, no logos showing. I guess they thought we might spill or bump into something with open heels! :chuckle They have some really cute colors and patterns for Dansko's! I saw some that were spotted like a leopard! I haven't seen those red ones! They sound weird to say the least!
I got a black pair so I could wear them as a normal shoe, bopping around town. I think they are very comfortable and don't see ugly to me! But I love the look of clogs!

Smile123,
:), this made me smile a little...
Once you start your clinicals and start walking around the floors in the hospital and in patient rooms and such, you may not even want to wear your shoes out of the hospital, (not in your car, not in your house, not....anywhere.)
One of the hospitals that I worked at would do random swabs of areas around the hospital and share the results. One swab on the carpet, (which they removed since then) showed bacteria that could not even be identified!
Anyhow, since I walk around my house barefoot I eventually ended up removing my 'clinical' shoes outside and leaving them by the door. I did not want the hospital floor, (with the feces, urine, blood, body fluids and other goo) on my floor.
:), Maybe another pair of Danskos, non-work ones, will be good for around town.

p.s. chuckle, ah, the stuff we walk on in clinicals....

Yuck!
That's good to know. I will keep my non-work Danskos separate from my clinical ones! Maybe that's the reason nurses have lockers! :wink2: Keep the little beasties away!
