Difficult Choice for 1st Job

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

Hi Everyone!

I'm in a predicament. I am to be one of the few lucky new grads in my area who has multiple job opportunities.

My old job at a University Health Center wants me back as a triage RN. I was an LVN there for two years. The pay is not the greatest, but the benefits, free tuition and the large amount of time off is PHENOMENAL!!! I would basically work 9 months out of the year, full benefits including health/medical and only monday - friday 8-5 at that.

I'm just worried, even though I have experience as an LVN, that this could short-change me later.

This job would put me on the fast-track to management jobs, etc and it is a government position.

What do you guys think? Thanks!

I think it sounds awesome but you are the one that would have to do it. What do you think? :)

I wouldn't mind going back there, I'm just worried that all these skills I spent SOOO much time learning and the slow pace there will make it not worth it. I'm never gonna do an NG tube or an IV there, that's for sure. Mostly patient education and triaging as in " you need to go to the hospital" or "we can put a bandaid on it for you"

I'm torn. I'm actually leaning against it because I want to try critical care.

That and they haven't been able to get someone in there for over a year with the position,

the salary is THAT low for this area.
