Different schedule options for CNM?

Published

Hi everyone!

I was hoping someone would be able to inform me about the different schedule options a CNM could have. For example, I know some jobs require a lot of time on call, but which locations may offer a more concrete schedule for those who cannot be on call so often? I was hoping for a schedule similar to a hospital RN who may have a day or two on call but isn't dependent on a particular woman giving birth to have to show up for work. :) Any information is greatly appreciated!

Honestly the variety of employment settings and practice setups are so broad in midwifery it's hard to generalize. If you're more interested in shift work vs. taking call from home, your best bet would be working at a large midwifery service in a busy hospital. My prior job in this setting involved two 8 hour days in the clinic and two 12 hour shifts (one night shift, one day shift) on L&D, per week, as an example.

Thank you for your reply, that was exactly what i was hoping for. I'm glad this scheduling option is available in large hospitals as this would be my ideal location :)
