At my community college to get the Associate's degree you need:

English 101, Psych 101, Developmental Psych, Sociology 101, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Microbiology, A few health or phys-ed electives, a few more general electives, and the core program which is

first semester--fundamentals w/ clinical being in a nursing home

second semester--med/surg w/ clinical being on a med-surg floor

third semester--one half is maternal/child w/ clinical on OB floor

third semester--one half is psych w/ clinical on psych floor

fourth semester--med surg again w/ clinical in higher-level med surg environment.

Plus there are two one-credit courses about history of nursing and issues in nursing.

Plus, you have to have taken basic chemistry and math in high school or you need to take it in college before you get into the program.

And everything needs an average of a C or better!
