differences among diagnostic tests with diabetes

Published

hi all, i am a bit confused about these diagnostics testing with regards to diabetes. i am going to present/report about "FBS-fasting blood sugar/glucose" and it seems that all are pretty the same. if anyone can help me with this one, i will really really appreciate it.

  1. glucometer blood sugar
  2. fasting blood glucose
  3. post prandial blood glucose
  4. glycosylated haemoglobin
  5. glucose tolerance test

thank you!

I really do try to stay away from the "look it up" replies that some posters provide, but these tests really are not pretty much all the same. Yes, they are all checking blood sugar, but your med-surg textbook discusses all of these (I'd bet my cat's life on it, if I had a cat). You just need to look it up. They are all tests of blood sugar using different timing and different techniques.

Yes I agree with the other poster. They are all the same in the sense they are testing glucose levels, but the how and why and the process are different and important. They are very easy answers to find. Even if you at least post a summary on the different ones telling us what you found, and asking if that is correct or what not, that is showing you have put some work into it and are not just here asking for people to do the work for you.
