I worked in many hospitals over a 15 year period. Large regional facilities, religious institutions, small community hospitals. I finished up in a regional public hospital. A year or so ago, I switched to public health, and it is so much better. I really loved bedside nursing. But you aren't just allowed to nurse. There's so much more, well, crap now that's added to it. I don't know what staffing levels are like at Bellevue, but at most hospitals staffing is getting increasingly tight, with no improvement on the horizon. I hated working the hospital so bad that I would get physically ill on the way to work. My community job is less stressful. I get to connect with people, I really feel like I'm helping them. There are frustrations, of course, there are any time you deal with people. Getting out of the hospital was the best thing I ever did. I don't think I could have done this job as a new grad, though. There's too many times I'm expected to know an answer immediately, and most of those answers come from my years in the hospital.
Your skill level would probably benefit from being in a hospital. It is a well-respected institution, perhaps they haven't succumbed to the dumbing down of healthcare in pursuit of good Press-Ganey scores.

Hi Everyone,
I really need help in deciding about my job. I recently graduated and obtained my RN License. I have been offered two jobs. One at Bellevue Hospital and one as Community Health Registered Nurse.
I am really confused which one to pick as I find both the jobs very good for new graduate. Community Health Nurse pays slightly more than City Hospital with all benefits. I know the stress level is higher at the hospital but at the same time I feel the job would be more secured at the hospital. I would love to hear any suggestion or advice to help me decide on this decision.
Thank You very much.
