I just interviewed with a hospital today who's union is Communication Workers of America. Does anyone know how this compares with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA)?
Any input greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!!! :)

I don't know the difference between these two....but NYSNA is more vocal....comparing with the other one which I heard about it only when I applied for a position in New York Downtown Hospital.
Right! I had an interview with New York Downtown and Communication Workers of America is what's representing them.
I applied for the Labor and Delivery unit and got an offer from them. I'm trying to decide if I should take the job at NYDown or start off in a Med-surg unit at a bigger hospital and wait to be transferred to L&D...
My opinion is to go for Med-Surg....you will get all the basic skills from there.
Plus a bigger hospital will provide you more learning experience that you are looking for....and you will need in the future....
I had 1 year experience in Med-Surg, and I found out it is so much easier for me to get into ICU....inasmuch I got all the basic skill I need to work in the ICU....some nurses without the Med-Surg experience found themselves in "trouble" and need more time to finish the orientation....
It is only my opinion......
