Difference between ALS and ACLS

Does anybody know the difference between ALS (UK/Europe)= Advanced Life Support and ACLS (USA/Canada) = Advanced Cardiac Life Support??

If there is any, or is this just one of those european/american things??

From the first look at it, it looks pretty much the same.

I wonder if I ever should make it across the big pond, if I have to do it again...

It is essentially the same thing, but for the US to accept it, it needs to be a program thru the American Heart Association.

And it still needs to be renewed every two years, chances are that the employer will have you sit for it again. There will be several other courses that will need to be done like this as well.
