You sound very upset and crushed. I would be too. My sympathies. Couple of questions...if you want to hear them (if not, stop reading now!). Do you understand what caused this? For example, did you not keep up in the class or did you freeze up during tests? Did you find the material boring? Did you not have the necessary background for the class? Just throwning things out. I think when you fully understand this, then you'll decide what to do next. Re-take the class (even if not required, it can really help you get on your feet with the material. I did this once - got a D in my major subject and even though it wasn't required, I retook the class and got an A. Best thing I ever did, because I really learned the material twice). If you find it boring, maybe you're not in the right field. This might be a wake-up call.
Best of luck in figuring out what's next for you.

Meredith has a good point. Not to sound harsh, but if you ended up with a D you either didn't do everything they needed you to, or else maybe you didn't have a good enough grasp of the material to master it. Ideally, the best thing to do is realize this while it's happening.... and get help before the semester is over. Surely you knew that your grades weren't too great before the final scores were sent out?
What did you find out from talking to the admin? Are you going to be able to re-enroll in the class? If so, good luck! Maybe it doesn't seem like it, but hopefully that will be a good experience for you - you'll be able to see what caused you problems this past semester and avoid them in the future! :)
I know in our program the students that took classes IN ADDITION to nursing classes usually either failed or ended up dropping.
You may want to consider finishing as many non-nursing courses as you can PRIOR to continuing with the nursing courses. That way you can concentrate on the cores.
In our program D = Do over and C = continue.
Well I did grasp the material I just didn't to hot on the tests thats all. I did know my score I will be repeating the couse in 6 months. Until then I will be taking Psych 2, Nutrition as well. I will have to give 120% this year as well. THis will allow me to focus on nursing soley when I get back in the program.
Thanks for hearing me out.
I just completed my first semester of nursing here in Kansas. I received a D on my second test and it scared me. I found a book on test-taking tips that helped me tremendously. It's called Successful Problem-Solving and Test-Taking for Nursing and NCLEX-RN Exams by Meds Publishing. By reading this book and practicing the tips they suggested, I got A's on all the rest of my exams and my final grade was a 93%. I've been telling the rest of my class about this book, and I have a letter going out to next semesters incoming class. I don't guarantee 100% that every student who reads this book will get an A in their class, but I bet it would at least help. Here's the website:

I'm trying to get this book approved by our college bookstore so students can purchase it with their financial aid.
Good luck and don't give up!

That sounds like a plan! At least you KNOW what the problem area is and have taken steps to fix it. :)
You may want to consider getting a NCLEX book with questions. The type of tests in nursing are different than any other, the "critical thinking" and more than one right answer sometimes mess with your mind. These books help you learn to take them. I used Saunder's since my first semester, and I can study the section they are teaching, or use the CD to study. IT HAS REALLY HELPED!

Just got back my final grade and it was a lovely D. I am so depressed. I did everything they needed me too and I still blew it. I am going to meet with a admin. tomorrow to see what happens to me now. I won't be kicked out of the program -which is good. I am so bummed out right now. I am still going to school in the spring to work on Chem. 1 and Psych 2 and another class as well.
Just needed to express my depression tonight .
Thanks guys and gals.
