Did you take a Medical Terminology class?

Published

Just wondering if this is a normal requirement. One of the nursing programs in our area requires you either take a Medical Terminology class, or take a test.

However, the other program does not require medical terminology whatsoever.

My school requires it. I am in BSN program. However, because I was a medical transcriptionist and LPN prior to pursing my RN, I requested experiential credit. It has been approved through one committee and I am waiting for final approval from another committee. I would try that first and see if you can get experiential credit, because although it is 1 credit hr, some teachers treat it like it is a 3 hrs course. I had a classmate take it and she said that it was just as much work as a 3 hr class and she had to check in everyday (onlne course). My advisor and the Director of Nursing Program both said it was "easy", but neither of them probably hasn't taken a course in years and has no idea. When I was in LPN school they gave me credit w/o any questions asked because of my prior medical experience but the school I am in now, won't honor the credit they allotted me.

Specializes in CRNA.

Program does not require the class but it is strongly recommended. I am currently in the class.
