Our nursing school used collaborative test taking (groups of 3) for the final in one of the most difficult classes. Some really liked it, did better on the test because of it, others chose not to do it for reasons such as: not thinking it was proper, noise level, distractions, etc. Has anyone's school ever done this? If so, what do/did you think? I am looking for nursing educator's points of view too. I have a background in education, so this is very interesting to me.
For my opinion, I don't think it is proper for nursing schools to use because the NCLEX and all the other tests will not be collaborative. Feedback?

For one of my theory classes, we used collaborative testing, but it was only for 5% of our grade. So, we'd all take the test independantly and fill in our own scan-tron forms, you then turn in the scan-tron, but keep the exam.
Once time is up for the individual exam, you get into your assigned group of three and the three of you work on the exam together with a different answer sheet.

Hmmmm, "collaborative testing"? I think they used to call that cheating!

Sounds bogus to me! My school does not use it and if they did, I would take my exam by myself!

I was really dreading collaborative testing, but I ended up really liking it.
The way my school does it is : you take the test, stay at your desk until the hour is up,then keep the test but pass up the scantron. Then break into groups of 5-6, retake the test as a group. If the group gets an A, then they add 1 point to your score, if the group gets a B, then they addd .5 points to your score.
I really liked it, because it gave me immediate feedback. I liked hearing how others felt about the test, and what their rational was for their answer. i think a lot of it depends on the people in your group. Luckily I sit with 4.0 students, so we are all pretty even in the academic area, we always got 100% on our collaborative tests. We decided day 1 in our group that majority rules, if we all do not agree on an answer we give our rationale then vote, majoirty wins, no hurt feelings. I know one group in my class fought a lot because one girl would not back down that her answer was right every time.
