Did LPN interfere with your job?

Published

I have written other posts on here, but havent received any replies yet. If I do decide to go for LPN it would depend on if I can get more financial aid (graduated from same college recently)..and make it work somehow with my job. Im afraid of both not working out. The thing is I am working at a local hospital that is part of the Catholic Health System. I was a nursing assistant for a few months, bid on a job an am now just starting to recently work alone as a unit clerk. The pay is a little better. MY QUESTIONS FOR YOU: Did you have to quit your job to go for LPN? I mean I went to college full time and worked part time (as a cashier for 4 years) most of the semesters I was at the college before, however this time Im afraid my new job scheduling will interfere. I am part time..work when the full time 7-3 is off. So 99% of the time I will be working either MOndays,Fridays, or the weekends. So its more like a set schedule and doesnt seem like it would be flexible as far as I know. Im still trying to get a hold of the program director to see if this is something I want to do (same director I had for other program)..find out details etc. I dont want to bring it up to my boss yet until I really know. I cant really afford to quit both financially but also..actually getting into the system and having to quit would not be good! Idk anyone else have these problems? It seems like the encourage continuing education, but I still dont see how my days would switch if I needed them to.

A full time LVN school will def. interfere with a work schedule.

Yes, that definitely seems like it is going to! Wish I didnt have to worry about a job. On top of that tuition and not having own transportation= stressed me! I really am determined to get this to work idk how but it has to! Talk to director next Tuesday.

A few of my classmates did work as unit Secretary AMD went to Lpn school full time. So anything is possible. Your employer Will understand. Did get a bachelor's degree because if u did financial aid is out of the question. Stay motivated

Good luck!!!!

Yes being a unit secretary is quite stressful..and Im new! Ill have to see how much the scedule will change when the books come out next month. Yes you think they would be understanding, but I dont know we will see. Yeah and they "encourage" continuing education, but what happens when the school schedule interferes with my set scheduled days of work, also I thought I could get tuition reimbursement (for the 2nd semester at least after a year), but it doesnt seem like they are very flexible with that either. You have to work so many hours a week to get it. Say IF I even do get one of my days off for the semester for school, that would bring me down a day a wk and therefore wouldnt be able to get tuition reimbursement..even though the other week I work my regular schedule. Its like Im working my hours now and that seems messed up, especially when you cant help it. Thats sounds like what the lady said though. Have to see about schedule when time comes :uhoh3:. Im worried about transporation to. I would like to stay in same healthcare system..so I dont understand why they cant give everyone some choice of where they want to go for clinicals. I have a whole bunch of closer places through the same system written down and am going to try and see if I can go to some of these places. Transportation is tough for me now...and a bus would be very time consuming, money, and not exactly safe. Some of these places are pretty far.
