Hi,
New here...just took my TEAS V today at Tarrant County College. I am so confused! To me, my scores are crappy. I "passed" according to the rating and the National and Program average...I got a 64.7. The program average is exactly that score as well. And on the individual sections, I scored in the 70s which shows a few percentage points above the national and program averages as well. However, everything I'm reading shows people scoring waaaay higher.
I don't know if I'm even competitive?! Even in Reading and Language which are my BEST subjects, I scored in low 70s and that floors me because I'm usually almost perfect in those areas! So I don't know if I honestly did that bad or if I'm reading into the scores the wrong or what?
I studied a LOT using the McGraw-Hill book and I felt the test was difficult and am not sure I can do any better if this score is actually as crappy as I think.
Any guidance? I'm in the North Texas area and trying to get into either Tarrant County College or Weatherford.
Thanks!

Hello. I'm a fellow TCC applicant for fall of 2011. I just took my TEAS today at TCC and scored an overall of a 85.3%. My sister took the exam also and scored a 69%.
Your score is average and can still be competitive. How is your science GPA? My best friend got accepted into TCC scoring a 71%on TEAS (but that was the easier, 3/4 version) and a 3.5 science GPA.
I would recommend you to apply. The worst that can happen is you not get accepted and then have to re-apply for next semester but you will never know unless you do apply! it really can't hurt any! :) Also, you can only take your TEAS once a semester so apply now and if you don't get into the program talk to the TCC nursing counselor and ask what you can do better.. then you can potentially re-take the TEAS if that is what you feel like it best.
Give it a shot!

I think you should still apply. Most scores last application period were in the 60's and 70's. There is proof on the TCC Spring 11' thread. This shows you that the national average is actually correct. There might be more than a handful of students with averages above 80, but I'm sure there is three times more with scores like yours. The test was difficult in some degree in the areas that you struggled the most. I'm ESL and I had to really work hard to dissect the grammar from the test. I even went online and did practice worksheets on subject/verb agreements and other things I was rusty at. In the reading section what helped me the most was taking the practice tests on the version 5 book and the online tests and reading the rationale to find the answers they wanted, (specifically on the logical conclusion sections) these can be very tricky. I was confusing myself between inference and the logical conclusion; they are two different things and if you don't study the book 5 meticulously, they will mess you up. I scored a 92 in that section so that tells me that my strategy worked. Like the previous poster mentioned, it won't hurt to apply. The TEAS test is just a fraction of what they look at, your GPA for the sciences is VERY, VERY important too. Oh, and my overall score is in the 70's and I have a 3.9 overall GPA and 4.0 in the sciences. I worked my butt off for my sciences and GPA, and my TEAS scores don't reflect what a dedicated student I'm. Oh, and I ran out of time on the math, had to guess the last 5-6 questions. Yikes! I have faith, I have done what I can. GOOD LUCK :)

I would recommend retaking it if you can to give yourself a better chance. Also spend the money on the TEAS V study guide- it is pretty similar to the actual test. I definitely learned a few things from there by answering, realizing my answers were wrong and figuring out why! You don't want to be "average..." so if you can take it again, take a few weeks, study and then try again! I have a study guide that I wrote in in pencil if someone is interested in buying for $10 plus shipping. I paid $35.00
Thanks for the responses. I'm going to apply anyway cuz it would be foolish not to. Maybe I will get lucky and get in because the TEAS does not at all reflect how smart I am or am not. I'm pretty irritated with the whole thing. Boo for failure!!

Remember there really is no failing score on the TEAS, and TCC has no minimum score to get in. It really just depends on the pool of applicants. I called the nursing department after my TEAS and she calmed me down and reminded me that the TEAS is not the only thing they look at. Your grades and classes completed are a large factor. This wait is what is going to make me crazy.
Good Luck!

As someone else already said -- get the TEAS V study guide. It is identitcal to what is on the test. Splurge and get the package that includes the paperback study guide and the online practice tests. I took one of the practice tests in the book first to see what areas I really needed to focus on. The online practice tests are set up very similar to the actual exam so it'll give you a chance to get familiar with the online set up. You will go to the same website for the actual exam as you do for the practice ones.
