Did you get CPR/BLS ceritified with your CNA program?

Published

My program offers the CPR/BLS (for medical personnel) class to the CNA students for free. The American Heart Assoc. came to the college and we had the class today. I'm now ceritified...yay!:nurse:

Yes we rec'd that in our CNA class but we did pay $15.00 but we rec'd the mouthpeice and the book.

Our paperwork said that if we didn't return the book (which we got two days ago) that we would be charged $15. I guess that if I asked to buy the book they would have let me. :) We didn't get a one-way valve mouthpiece with ours. I plan to go buy one, though. The bookstore at the college sells them for $2.

nope, it's not offered with our cna class. wish it was.

we have to take a different class 'cpr for healthcare provider'.

I haven't started my classes yet but I am taking the redcross program and the cpr/bls is included. total cost of class with state exam is $810.00.

I went through the Red Cross program myself. The tuition included the cost of CPR/AED on the professional rescuer level as well as a first aid class.

hi omgtehbunny.....how was your experience with the program? Was it really hard? were the instructors good? thanks,Michelle

The classwork wasn't difficult for me. I did take medical terminology in high school and have worked in a tattoo shop, so I already had at least a little bit of a headstart over some people in that I knew what words meant, and I knew first aid and about blood borne pathogens and the like. The normal CNA instructor at the Knoxville chapter was out on maternity leave when I went through the class. Her replacement was a very nice woman that I got along with great. However, she had taught one class before ours and was involved in a few too many intra-class politics, gossiping and the like. Because of this, there was a lot of personal conflicts throughout the class. This was probably just an isolated case, and of course I wouldn't expect all Red Cross classes would be the same. The CPR/AED class was actually fun for me, though it did require more attention than the regular classwork did. Clinicals were stressful, but I'm sure it's like that everywhere.

The only thing I will say that is that none of us felt that our class really prepared us for the written exam. I passed it with 95%, but I guessed on many of the questions. There are simply a lot of things that were not gone over. What I did know easily compensated for what I didn't, but I do wish it had at least been mentioned.

You'll get a little graduation ceremony on your last day. There will be a few awards, and everyone will get their first aid, CPR, and NA cards. I had the highest grade average of the class and was given a tote bag.

Good luck! They'll tell you on your first day that the class will be over before you know it, and they mean it!

I have just started my first quarter- the beginning of my pre-reqs for the nursing program. I am going to be taking the CNA course through my college next quarter, and was just wondering if it was difficult/very time-consuming? I have had no practice at all in my past pertaining to nursing or the like, so I am a little nervous about taking the CNA course, but from the above forums it doesn't sound that hard.

Just was wanting some advice...thanks!

bunny.....thanks so much for such a detailed post. quite thoughtful of you.
