Did you get an AS Biology?

Published

I'm graduating in may with my bio degree while waiting for acceptance to a nursing program. At my community college with all the prerequisites and general Ed we have to do we also qualify for an AS in Human Bio. Does this normally happen at other community colleges as well where nursing students can make out with two degrees? Just curious. I'm pretty stoked to be having two science degrees and one of those being a "bonus" :)

Specializes in Hospitalist Medicine.

Yes, I have an AS in Microbiology & Physics because of all the classes I took years ago (at the time, I wanted to be a doctor). I had so many pre-req credits that I had enough to get the AS. As luck would have it, I ended up having to put my career on hold when I decided I wanted to be an RN. 18 years later, I'm now going back...finally!

Because there are so many pre-req classes involved, you can usually get an AS before you're even accepted into nursing school. By the time I'm done getting my BSN, I'll have 3 degrees: AS Microbiology/Physics, AAS Nursing and BSN :D

Can't wait to get it done!!!!

Lol I was just telling DH that I was going to apply for an AS in biology & math based on my gen eds & pre reqs. He thinks I'm crazy.

it is not crazy!! if you've met the requirements why not have a little something extra to add to that resume?? i figured if i did all the work for it, i'm taking it, whether it was intentional or not.

I agree! Plus the graduation will give me a sense of accomplishment while I await obtaining my RN.

Congrats on your degree! I have one more semester before I can apply to graduate.

Thank you :) I get to graduate on May 11 and just got my cap/gown/sash today. It's exciting. I can't wait to get that nursing degree though. Gotta keep moving forward!!
