I have been working on a med-surg unit since August this year. I was wanting to just get in a year of med-surg because that is the inevitable advice from everyone. I don't know if it's just the unit I work on or the field itself but my heart is not in it. I kind of wish I would have started out in Psych. Has anyone began their career in Psych and how do you feel about your decision?
It's official now! I got the pedi psych job! I am so happy! I start in three weeks. I have reviewed my psych text book from cover to cover. Anyone know of any CEU's that are applicable? I would like to do something productive in the time until I start. I want to start TOMORROW! I am very excited!
I am starting my first day of psych nursing on Monday and am very excited (this is also my first job as an RN). I have to admit I am a little nervous being out of school and not being around the med-surg/technical side of nursing but I am currently trying to find a part time job on a med-surg floor that will complement my psych schedule so I can get the best of both worlds (and fingers crossed not burn out in the process).

CONGRATS!
I hope to be posting a similar message in August.

Congrats! I am currently adding med-surg to my psych experience. I think it will be great to have
both.

Keep us updated on how this is going. I would be really curious to know how the doubling up is practically. While it sounds like a great idea to me I do wonder if this may be a bit over the top long term wise

Great news! It's not official yet, but I got the pediatric psych job! I talked to the nurse recruiter today and all they are waiting for is one of my references to fax the form back. I called them and they didn't even know what I was talking about, so I've asked the recruiter to refax the form. Hopefully they will fill it out and get it back quickly. I don't know how long corporate orientation is, and then there's crisis intervention training. That doesn't leave much time for orientation before I take over for someone going on maternity leave in February. Hopefully it is the end of February, not the beginning.:wink2:
At my last job I had to wear navy pants every day. At this job I can wear anything but white. So, to celebrate I got some fun colored scrubs (hot pink, yellow, etc.) I will let you all know when it is official!
