Did anyone go to Hagerstown CC?

U.S.A. Maryland

I'm from Hagerstown, but live in WA state with my husband. Once we move back home I want to start the RN prgram at HCC. Has anyone gone through there to get their RN? How is the nursing classes? Teachers? etc......

Hello,

I just saw that you're from Hagerstown. We're moving either there or across the border in PA. I've never been there. Please share why you like it so much I'm a little nervous--have never lived in that part of the country.

Thank you!

HI there-

I am living in hagerstown and I go to HCC. I have heard the RN program is pretty good. I am about to enter the LPN in the summer. Unfortunately the problem with the RN program is that there are WAY too many applicants and WAY too few spaces(thirty spaces). They do entrances by the point system and the least number of points they accepted this year was 17. These points are added up by Maryland residency, Washington County residency grades etc. I didn't get accepted because I didn't have my micro finished, so I am going to try for the LPN to RN after I finish the LPN. It seems now that the demand is so great that you have to have every course done except the nursing classes whereas before you could just get the prerequisites done and save the gen eds for when you were in school. There are a couple of schools around here within driving distance as well. I am excited to be doing the LPN program to start. Gotta start somewhere and I think this is a great first step that will aid me in my future education. The LPN program had just enough spaces for everyone this year 30 places.

Hope this helps.

I did and graduated in May of 2003. I can tell you that the program is good but there are a lot of people waiting to get into the program. The demand for RN programs is high in that area of Maryland. Of course, all the second year instructors are different than when I was there, so I really can't tell you how they are. But the DON was an instructor when I was there and she was very good....I actually had her for my community pediatric rotation. Any questions....post on the bulletin and I will try to get back to you.

Hi. I live in Sharpsburg, MD which is only 14 miles from Hagerstown. I went to Career Studies Center but the program is not offered anymore. James Rumsey which is in WV has an LPN program but I think it has a waiting list also. After you get your LPN you have a few options like Mountain State University which provides LPN to Associate or BSN which I am in now. Good Luck.

I love this area Military Spouse. The crime rate is not as bad as the big cities and it is more rural but then again I have lived here all my life so I am predjudice. Good Luck with what ever decision you all make.

Hello,

We have been living here for just over a year now and I really like it. I'm working close to Sharpsburg and really like my job. When we first got here, I really didn't want to stay but now I really like it. Housing is a bit more expensive than I would like, though.

I thought about going to HCC but after I checked into Mountain State University I decided to go there. I really like that it is only 1 night a week and I am able to keep working and spend time with my family while still going back for my degree. I know a few nurses that did go to HCC and liked it. My nephews girlfriend graduates this month. Good Luck if you choose to go there. Dani
