I'm thinking of getting my BSN online through Kaplan University but I have to make a fast decision since they start Nov. 10. I have spoken with one of their advisers, the program seems costly 375 dollars per one credit... I'm looking for opinions (the program will last 2 years (full time) thanks.
P.s. I'm looking for an online program since I work home health care.
Are you still in the program? Do you know any graduates of the program. Any opinion on the MSN at Kaplan and the school as a whole would be very helpful to me in deciding to continue there.
If I am the person you are asking, I am still in the program and will be graduating 12/24/13. I think the program is wonderful! I have not had any complaints to speak of and will be going on with KU for my MSN in Nursing Informatics beginning in January 2014.
yes, you are the person I was asking. Thanks so much for your input. For me, everything is what you put into it. A lot of people who complain about schools wanted miracles to happen and wants to recieve a job and other benefits without working for it.

I totally agree with what you are saying. I put a lot of time into this program and I feel extremely comfortable with it.
Any difficulties with Kaplan? Do people look down on the degrees because it is from Kaplan? What about their FNP proram? Any issues there?
I have not had any real difficulties with Kaplan. When I say that, I mean that if there were difficulties, they were of the everyday kind. Time management mostly such as getting homework done, papers done, etc. and working at the same time.
I am not familiar with the FNP program at Kaplan so I cannot speak to that per se. I do know that one of the biggest difficulties with any FNP program is getting the clinical time in. But that is an issue with any program that expects you to find your own clinical site.
No one has looked down on me with a degree from Kaplan and after going through the program (I have been in a conventional university completion program and another online program), that Kaplan is the best I have been part of hands down. I do not think that I could say enough about the good things that this program has done for me. Increased my confidence, help me figure out what I want to do with my degree, and the world class people that I have "met" in the program. But as I stated before this is my feeling. Someone else may have had a worse experience for any reason. I have a few coworkers who are also going to Kaplan to complete their BSN and are very happy with the program. Where they go after that, I do not know.

However, I've had those nightmares before with financial aid. It's good that I've seen a lot of people like the program. Plus I plan on joining the reserves soon. Plus they called and talked to me and were very informative.
I did look and found out that they are accrediated. The two states I would be interested in would accept them because I would be eligible to sit for a national exam for the FNP because they are accrediated.

They said it may be a shorter time frame for students who have an associate degree. I also have microbiology and a geriatrics class.
If I could get one or two classes knocked off, it would save me time.

I was able to get almost if not all of my classes transferred in. I also graduated with an Associates degree in Nursing. My whole program at Kaplan (2 classes at a time) has taken a year to complete.
I will be graduating from this program 12/24/13. I believe this is a great program! I currently hold a 4.0, am a member of STT, and ABK. But, of course you don't know me from Adam's house cat. I like KU so much that I will be going on with them to get my MSN in Nursing Informatics.

can I get more info on kaplan RN- BSN program? was it hard?
The Kaplan RN-BSN program was not too difficult. I am saying that because I work part-time, have an adult child living at home, three dogs, and a husband. I also, took two classes at a time. This was very doable for me. However, I don't know many others that have more on their plate able to keep that pace.
I am only taking one class at a time for my MSN and the pace is much better for me. Everything in my life has stayed the same.
I was with another on-line program, Ohio University. I did not care for their platform at all. Not user friendly or intuitive. Some people are better with a hybrid program or a face-to-face program. Only you know what will work for you.
I also signed up and was able to try a class for a few weeks before owing any money. I found that worthwhile also. Where I work, I am the first graduate from the program. There are numerous other RNs, whom I've spoken with, who switched programs and have appreciated Kaplan's commitment to our success.
