Hello all!
I didn't see anyone here on allnurses that posted about SUNY Farmingdales advanced standing transfer Nursing B.S! I applied at the end of July and so far have received a letter that i passed the first round of admissions! YAY! I thought maybe we could all support one another and say our GPAs and Prerequisite grades for anyone who is interested. I have scheduled my TEAS exam for October 2nd. If anyone is interested in knowing, I decided to go with the TEAS at a PSI center and not at farmingdale so that I will be able to send my scores to other schools if I choose. I am really hoping to get in! Nursing is my dream. :)
I already have completed all the pre req courses required by farmingdale. I am currently a senior at a CUNY school studying Health Science.
Overall GPA: 3.65
Pre Req Course Grades:
1. A and P 1 = B+
2. A and P 2 = A
3. Eng. Comp 1 = A
4. Math (Pre Cal) = B+
5. Psych = A+
6. Three Liberal Arts Courses: (will vary among individuals)
A. Eng comp 2 = A-
B. Music = A
C. History = A
Pre Req GPA: 3.7
Quick questions for anyone who got this info from them:
1. Does this years TEAS exam have a calculator? And are we allowed to use it during the math section?
2. Is this a rolling admissions type thing or do they review applications AFTER the deadline?
Thank you everyone! I hope everyone interested gets in!
Hello all,
I am a current student in the nursing program. I started spring of 2017. As for the question about ranking, when I applied I was told by admissions that in percentage of weight the TEAS is 40%, your prereq GPA is 40%, and your overall GPA is only 20%. I have a friend with a 4.0 who did poorly on the TEAS who didn't get in. The TEAS is weighted heavily and is very important. Most people in my class that I have talked to scored in the 80s and a few in the 90s. I know of one person who got a 74 and the lowest I know of is a 70. Based on this, it would seem that you guys have a good shot of getting in. Best of luck getting accepted!
Glad I could help. I remember what its like to be in your shoes. The program has been a good experience so far. It can be disorganized at times, and there is a lack of standardization/continuity between all the professors in terms of how to do certain lab skills, but nothing you can't manage. Most of the professors are very friendly and willing to help you. They want to see you succeed. First semester is hell in terms of time management and the whole adjustment process to the style of nursing exams and way of thinking. You will be stressed out and overwhelmed at times, but it is worth it.
Damn... do you think it's feasible to work while in this program? And also how are the scheduled days? I live really far (like over an hour drive) from the school and I don't think I'd want to go to school Monday-Thursday. Are there plenty of class offerings or do they have disorganized scheduling like CUNY schools? Lol
My status on Oasis changed to "Acceptance prior conditions" on the 22nd of November, so one week after the deadline. The conditions just means you need to send your transcript of current classes at the end of the semester. For the first semester, they gave us two set schedule options, group A and group B, and we had to pick one or the other. There were different hospitals for each group. After the first semester you can make your own schedule and construct a more convenient one. Unfortunately, we had class every single day Monday-Friday, besides Tuesdays when we were at the hospital. It is absolutely feasible to work. I worked 25-30 hours on the weekends. Plenty of students work part time, and a lot of them have kids and families.
