Hi!
I am a new RN. I've been working at a SNF for 2 months only. I wanna move into dialysis. I know I do not have enough experience but I have learned from searching online that it's a totally different field. So I might as well get into it right now. I live in the SF bay area and trainings available is only for dialysis technician which is around 7000-7500 for 16 weeks. Too expensive. I came across an online training from dialysis4career f0r 500. Anybody heard of dialysis4career? Please advise. I don't wanna pay and discover later no employer will recognize that. Also, wld anybody of u go for an online training? thanks...
thanks a lot maxgurl.....do u know if they are charging you for ojt? anyway i live in sacramento. Do you some dialysis center who offered ojt services?
if you get a job with a dialysis company, they will not charge you for the training. you'll be paid.
try applying for davita dialysis or FMC.
I got a job at dialysis clinic as a new grad rn with no dialysisis or hospital experience. I was an EMT-B on a 911 ambulance for 5 years though. Maybe they thought that was enough. And I was trained and worked as a tech for about 7 months befire I moved into the nursing side of thing. But to be honest if your a new grad, you need that tech experience under your belt. You learn a ton of things. There is a ton to learn but it is worth it I think. I got lucky and I think I found my niche right out of school.
I have been a dialysis nurse for 10 yrs and it is a rip off to pay for classes especially for a nurse, as a new nurse in any field you go into you are going to be a novice but the training I received by the company that hired me was sufficient and I had no critical care experience, in fact at the time I applied my only experience had been in a SNF. What I suggest is you research the facility you want to work in and find out the acuity of the patients in that clinic and if you feel it is too critical then maybe you could take a course but it is not necessary.
