I am considering this as a possible job switch. I had a mother who spent several years on dialysis and saw how rough it was. Could somebody give me a detailed job description on what a patient care tech does in a dialysis unit or free standing clinic, please. Do PCTs set up and monitor, or is there more involved?

I have just recently applied for the PCT and I'm new to the site. I was needing more information as well as the pay. I have applied with Fresenius is this a great company to work with and will they pay you while you train. All information will be helpful.
Hey! To be hired as a PCT, first of all you need to have you license to start working as a PCT. If you have your license already, you need have with some experience before entering the field.
I m not sure about getting trained in the company. You would have to call them and ask them, if they can do that.

License?
For license - RNs don't need a PCT license. The RN license works when entering the field. But RN's do need is 3 - 6 months of training/internship to get into the Dialysis Setting. Hope this helps :)

Most companys offer on the job training and you do not have to have previos exp. as PCT. this is usually a paid 3-4 month training. FMC does pay PCT's well...at least $12 where I live just starting out without exp. Once you complete training you, then take you state test for certification (CCHT), not license. Now, this is how it is in my state. CCHT's are responsible for a lot, not a easy job, but can be rewarding. The key is finding a job that is willing to train...Good Luck
