Couple middle school parents are starting to get very demanding for school nurse's to be available to cover all events that all other kids are able to go to. Dance's, sports, before school intramurals, clubs and just hanging out after school. It's getting out of hand. They are very fast to throw (sometimes literally) ADA in your face. I'm afraid I'm going to need to start going home for after school care for them. Is this happening in your district? I'm in NYS.

yep they are making us do this too. they want us on the bus in the morning at 7AM and then ride afternoon bus till 6pm in addition to every activity, sport, dance, field trip, practice, club, event, etc and its not just diabetics either, lots of other kids as well. They are making us do this w/ any emergency med that can only be given by nurse or parent!! It's the main issue of this school year. It's crazy, school nursing isn't what people think it is anymore at all and it hasn't been for a while. Thats why they have a horrible time keeping us staffed. Staffing is only going to get worse w/ these kind of expectations put on us daily. It's stressful and unfair, we have lives too. There's something that must be done about this issue, because this is going way to far. This is literally impossible to staff in my district. I'm looking around at other jobs at this point. With the expectations of us working 12 hour shifts as a school nurse, mine as well work at hospital. This is very sad when we have to put all our effort into staffing a nurse for all of these after school activities and bus rides. The nurse on the bus would ultimately have to do the same thing the bus driver would in an emergency, call 911.
