A 47 year old male with type 1 diabetes presents with a RBC of 4.3, a WBC of 11,300, a BUN of 21, a total cholesterol of 234, and a hba1c of 13.7, what would you presume to be the problem? What drugs would you recommend to prescribe?

Type 1 diabetes: Insulin...

RBC of 4.3: nothing to see here

WBC of 11,300: High end of normal...

BUN of 21: Kidneys are working too hard but still apparently doing their kidney thing...

Total cholesterol of 234: Borderline...

hba1c of 13.7: Oops... lousy control of blood sugar

What's the problem... probably poor compliance for some reason

What drugs would you recommend to prescribe? Meds to help get the sugars and cholesterol under control...

If this dude doesn't get his sugars under control, his kidneys ain't long for the world.
