diabetes protocol for LTC facilities

Does anyone have any suggestions for putting together a protocol for diabetes ( type 1or 2) management in a LTC facility? The home I work in is in desperate need of one. There is a general lack of knowledge regarding almost every aspect of diabetes from the RN's right down to the dietary staff. I would like to put something together to present to management but have never actually done anything like this so just wondered how other homes managed. Thanks

try www.dshs.state.tx.us for Texas Diabetes Council. They have good info.

Another source might be a diabetic educator in a local hospital. Even if your facility paid that educator on a contract basis it would be worthwhile.
