What are the signs and symptoms of a person experiencing ketoacidosis or DKA caused by their diabetes?
Dave, learning about diabetes, it's causes, complications and treatment is one of the cornerstones of nursing. I see that others are encouraging you to look up your answers and I agree with that. You need to develop an understanding of diabetes and answering that here isn't really helping you. You need to study about it as frequently as needed to memorize and understand about diabetes. Good Luck.
I have had type 1 since age 10. I have never been hospitalized with DKA, but I know when my blood sugar is so high that I should go to the hospital (but I don't go.)I get an unquenchable thirst. And I have to urinate all the time. My breathing is labored. I get so weak that I cannot function. Sometimes I get so nauseated... that about sums it up for me.
I wear a pump and these symptoms usually indicate my cannula is bent, therefore I am not receiving any insulin at all. Time to take an injection and change out my site!
Thank you for taking care of yourself.
