diabetes and diuresis

I need some imformation about tracking and mesuring diuresis in case diabetic patient. I know procedure for tracking and measuring diuresis in general, but I was wandering is there any small or big differencies.

Any tip will be useful.

Are you talking about diabetes mellitus (type one, type two), diabetes insipidus, gestational diabetes?

People with renal impairment will have altered diuresis, regardless of cause; people who are fluid restricted will usually have a corresponding reduction in output.

People with stable diabetes mellitus, regardless of type, will have normal output provided their renal function is greater than 50%. If their blood sugar is sitting higher than the renal threshhold (10mmol/L) then there will be a corresponding diuresis to dump excess glucose - if this isn't remedied output will continue to rise, leading to dehydration (a component of DKA if the diabetes if T1DM). Detecting this is best done through regular BGL monitoring rather than surveillance of urine output.

If you're thinking of diabetes insipidus (which is connected to DM only linguistically) then impairment of ADH regulation will result in potentially fatal polyuria.

what lab studies would you look at in a diabetic with high blood glucose and resulting massive diuresis? why? what would they tell you over time? how would they change with treatment (what treatments?)?
