DFPS findings of neglect

Published

A coworker of mine recently was found guilty of medical neglect of her child. How will 2 separate DFPS findings of neglect (neglectful supervision in 2023 and medical neglect in 2025) of a RN's children affect said RN's license? She already is participating in TPAPN for alcoholism and mental instability.

Not sure I understand the question entirely. DFPS is an agency that has findings. They do not find people guilty or not guilty. If they hand it over to police for criminal proceedings, and she's found guilty, then it may have an effect.

The two peer assistance issues are HER personal issues that affect her job. What she does or does not do for her kids may not affect her job at all.

Sounds like a Board of Nursing decision and possibly, an employer decision. It's possible your employer will be told and they'll have to decide what to do. Most states requires background checks, child abuse clearances and some go further in background checks for elder abuse clearances.

Once one is placed on a child abuse registry  by child protective services (CPS) will limit nursing positions hiring and needs to be reported per many states board of nursing regulations.   They should discuss this issue with the lawyer helping them with DFPS cases or a lawyer experienced in professional license defense.   The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA) is a non-profit organization having a referral list by state.
