Dextrose 10% IV in NICU

Published

Hi! Can you hang a dextrose 10% 250 ml iv bag in the Nicu or does it need to be a smaller volume iv bag? Thank you!

We use whatever size because it goes through a buretrol anyway.

ALL NICU/Paeds patients fluids when through a pump anyway so doesn't matter what size bag. Just depends on the hang time vs how much you are using as to what size bag you would use because of wastage.

It can be any size you have, we use 500ml bags because that is what we stock. And not all units use buretrols, we haven't used them since the late 80's, since pumps have improved and are more reliable.

Our pumps may just be from the 80s :X

XD Yeah maybe our pumps are too, as we have to use burettes and we're paeds not even NICU. Our educators would fall over and die if hearing we were going to use only a pump lol

That was going to be my answer too.
