Devastated.

Nurses New Nurse

So I'm a new grad and just like all the other new grads, I've been having a tough time finding a job. I had all of my friends hand out my resume to people with connections with hopes of at least landing an interview. One of the people with connections to a hospital I've actually done rotations in called me tonight. It started off as an ambush interview and ended w/ her basically telling me that I'm not desirable right now as a new grad w/ an ASN. She gave me a 10 minute lecture about how I shouldn't be picky and take any job I can get, even in a nursing home (which I HAVE applied to, with NO responses). I almost cried on the phone but waited till we hung up before bawling. I'm so devastated. I know how horrible the economy is today and how BSN's are more desirable. I really feel down on my luck. I DO want to get my BSN but right now I can't afford it. I was hoping to get a job so I can afford my tuition. Now, with no job and no BSN, I really don't know what to do. :crying2:

Hi I feel or felt your pain. I am a Diploma graduate not even degree bearing. I applied for over 25 jobs while in school and all gave me an automatic e-mail response I didnt even get an interview. But there is light at the end of the tunnel to this story. I finally did get an interview. It was 3 interviews to a hospital in Washington D.C. I start this monday and I just graduated. You also have to be willing to look every where even relocate. I am relocated from new jersey.

Specializes in Cardiovascular medical/surgical.

I feel everyone's pain. I just graduated from an accelerated bachelors program. I have applied to many different jobs in many different places. You name it I have applied to it..I ask almost EVERYONE I come in contact with if they know of anyone that can get me a job. It's really embarassing but at this point my fiance and I are both unemployed and taking turns terrorizing each set of parents for a week at a time...its getting REALLY old. There are hospitals in my area that are laying nurses with experience off so therefore saturating an already saturated market.

Also, I heard that a lot of hospitals are laying of the nurses with MSNs first because they have to pay them more so its better to keep the lower salary nurses on board.

Nursing shortage...maybe but I have yet to see it.

Good luck everyone.
