Desperately needing answers! USAF, CGFNS, ACCREDITATION, NC

Published

Hi there!

I'm currently a first year student in a Bachelors degree of health science (Nursing) in New Zealand, which will be completed in 3 years. My fiancé lives in North Carolina and will be enlisting into the USAF by January. I'm planning to go through the process of CGFNS accreditation once I have completed my degree, followed by joining my fiancé in North Carolina through the K1 visa.

I'm wondering, what form of accreditation does CGFNS provide? Will this accreditation allow me to find jobs easily without hassle in NC and further my studies if I intended to?

Will the USAF allow foreign nurses to enlist with a CGFNS approval, as I would love to eventually enlist as a nurse to further my studies as well as to obtain military experience. Iv'e seen on their careers page that they require their nurses to graduate from an accredited college, but would CGFNS be accepted as accreditation for international nurses?

Another question I have is, does anybody actually know for sure if we need work experience prior to moving to the USA in order to obtain work? I have been told (by a friend) 2 years of experience is a requirement for international nurses in order to obtain work in NC as a registered nurse. Of course being apart from my fiancé for 3 years during college is difficult enough, but another 2 years for work experience is just heart breaking! Any advice is highly appreciated!

Thank you!

Unfortunately, I have nothing to contribute to the questions you asked.

You can always try to locate HR contact information of the prospective employer and ask them.

My advice to you is not about nursing, It's about relationships.

Find a way to not be apart for so long, long-distance never works. Maybe there is a way for a student visa, that you can study close to your fiance?

Good luck

Work experience is not required prior moving to the US. CGFNS will do a report and the state will evaluate the report to see if you meet their requirements and if you do you will get eligibility to sit NCLEX.
