Desperate to get started. Do I have to wait for Spring 2010?

Published

I'm new to this site, so incase I'm not following proper forum etiquette, I apologize.

I was hoping for some feedback on my situation. I am EXTREMELY interested in the nursing field. I applied to an accelerated program a few months ago for this fall, but to my disappointment, I wasn't accepted. I have an non-nursing Bachelor degree and have completed all prerequisites for this program (Pych, English, math, Microb, A&P I &II,Chem). Foolishly, I put all my eggs in one basket assuming I was a shoe in for the program. Which means, I hadn't applied to other programs just incase. So here I am, feeling I fell way behind in my goals to be a nurse within the next year or so. I would love to even just go for my AA first, obviously I need to take baby steps since I wasn't able to get into the accelerated program. I feel I searched everywhere but even all the AA programs don't start up until Spring 2010. Is there anything I can do to continue progression towards nursing immediatly. Are there loopholes to taking nursing courses without officially being in a program yet? What about an LPN program and then enroll in the RN program down the road? I'm not one to sit still, so I'm looking for any ideas that would keep me busy and productive towards my nursing degree goals. I just feel I got myself ahead with prerequistes, but I still can't speed things up or even "catch up" at this point. I am willing to take courses in the city, westchester, CT or even NJ if anyone offers what I'm looking for! Thank you for any suggestions!!

The best way to reach your goal is the BSN Accelerated Program. Downstate Medical Center has such program too! However, you have tried it already and you might have to try something else.

I have a B.S. in Engineering. I finished my PN Program in 3/99 and I finished my AAS in Nursing in 11/2003. I have been an RN since 8/2004.

I am sharing my experience with you and I hope it will help you.

Good luck.
