DeSales University ABSN 2012

Published

Hello!

Didn't see another thread for this program and was wondering if anyone else has been accepted yet? Or if there are current/past students who know anything about the program. =)

Hey Skwattie,

I'm pretty local --- I live in Upper Bucks, about 35-40 min from DeSales. Are you local?

I'm excited to begin as well! I am actually a senior right now finishing my first degree. I graduate on the 11th and then we have orientation 6 days later! Kind of annoying but exciting. So I guess I'm kind of in the same boat as you --- finishing up my pre-reqs right before we begin. I actually completed one yesterday (took my Human Growth & Development CLEP exam), and I am taking A&P right now.

I've started to look into getting textbooks and getting all my clearances and all. Also, I have to get CPR certified. Lots to do but I'm excited about it (for now ... haha)

Glad to see someone else here before we meet for real on the 17th!

Hi everyone,

I guess I will throw myself into the hat here as well. I'm also considering attending DeSales ABSN in May 2012. I'm not local at all. I'm from the Jersey shore. Yes where they film the show, no I don't look/act anything like them. Allnuses.com is actually the reason I found out about DeSales and subsequently looked into it.

Question since we are all taking care of this stuff: For the background check the Certifiedprofile instructions say "New York State Only Package" at the top. Does this mean the Certifiedprofile is specific to New York State residents only? If so, how do the rest of us go about a background check?

That is only 1 of 2 forms concerning the Certified profile site. The other form is for everyone who is NOT a NY resident. The form you want looks very similar to the one that says "New York State Only Package"

woops!

silly me

Hey JennJF!

Yes I am in a similar boat as you! I completed by Bachelor's Degree in '09 but had to take some pre-reqs this past year for the ABSN program. I am also somewhat local living in Wind Gap which is about 35 min from DeSales. My finals end a week before orientation so I feel the same way you do about that! But the sooner we get started the sooner we finish! Oh, and my name is Sarah! =)

So what did everyone decide to do for housing for those that are not local to the area?

Hello everyone..so the deadline for the clearances is May 1st right? Does that mean that all RESULTS for the FBI Fingerprinting and background checks have to be in by then?!! The reason why I ask is because fingerprinting takes roughly 6-8 weeks to come back with a result. I was just able to send mine out last week!! Its been money issues not that I wanted to do things so close to the deadline or last minute.

I have completed everything else including the physical which cost alot :-(

I am dead broke. I just hope if the result come in after the deadline that I will still be able to start the program since I have already been approved for loans and have done my travel package. I am totally nervous. Is anyone else in the same predicament as me???

Pretty similar boat here. I actually e-mailed the person in charge of the background checks about this very situation. My packet was post-marked 2/28 so I probably got it 2 or 3 days after that. Even if I completed everything on the day of arrival, there is a chance it would not be completed within the time window they allotted. They could have told us up front how long respective background checks take to complete.

I'm actually still working on my loans, and I have been looking but have not found a place to live yet (I'm not from PA). So at least you are done with that stuff. What is this "travel package" you speak of?

Welcome Skwattie (Sarah), Dublak, and Tsanon.

Tsanon,

I am pretty sure May 1st is a tentative date. As long as you are not attending classes without these documents, you should be fine. Also, it might be a good idea to just touch base with Janet and let her know your clearence situation(s). I'm sure they understand.

On a side note, I am definitely in the same postion as you are when it comes to finances. I already have 5 years of school under my belt and am in serious debt. I am hoping loans work out for me now that I am filing as an independent. Not sure of what independent loan provider to use though to cover the difference.

Dublak,

I am from the area, and most housing places around us and or the school are rather pricey. Maybe you could call the off-campus housing department at DeSales and see if anyone is looking for a roommate. I am sure there are lists of people, or even apartment listsings through that office. You may be able to get something a little less pricey than going in alone on one.

My name is Jenelle and I am looking forward to putting a face to all of your "names." - 4 weeks!

I still didn't get my FBI prints done because I live in NJ and my job interferes with the time the police station is open. Hopefully I can get it done on Monday. Between getting all of these requirements done, finalizing my loan, and getting ready to move, I'm feeling overwhelmed!

Also, during my interview I was recommended to look into Allentown and Bethlehem for housing. I found my apartment in Allentown and the rent is pretty cheap compared to North Jersey anyways. I know that Center Valley and Hellertown, which are closer to the school, are more expensive.

Thank You Janelle!! I can't wait to meet everyone as well.

I finally got in touch with someone with answers to my question about three weeks ago. I was told by the accelerated program coordinator that the May 1st deadline is a date they tell everyone so students can get the ball running. In the past students would wait last minute to handle every thing. I am hopeful that my fingerprints come in time for clinicals. I sent them to the FBI on April 6th. Without a clearance from the fbi there is no way to be able to start clinicals.

I am coming from Fort lauderdale, FL (originally from Brooklyn, NY:D). I will be driving from FL to PA in about two weeks. I am very excited and scared at the same time to start the program. Really I have been worried about the work load and my math:cry:. But i am very hopeful because after reading several threads from Allnurses.com, there are ppl doing the nursing program while working full time (40hr) jobs, with a family and able to keep there gpa high. So it works for everyone.

I will be living in Tobyhanna, PA with a friend which I believe is about an hour drive. I know I am goin to hate the drive to school everyday:uhoh21:

Hey folks,

I am also starting the program in May. I spoke with the lady in charge of making sure we have everything done and while I think she would prefer us to have everything in, she understands that once sent out, they are no longer in our control. Has anyone gotten a book voucher yet? I just called in today to see if I could get one because I know my aid probably won't be in on time even though my loans are approved. IS ANYONE AS NERVOUS AS ME TO ACTUALLY START? I feel like all the information I have learned in the last few years has simply flown out of my brain!
