When I found out, my mail had gone home to my parents house. They called to tell me they were going to get the Christmas tree without me this year ( ) because there were no other weekends left in December to do it. Then, casually, they said and we got a letter ... Now here's some background --- I gave them EXPLICIT instructions to either 1) not open any mail from a school and send it right to me or 2) call me and open it with me on the phone. Annoying and picky maybe, but I wanted to find out either before or at the same time as the rest of the world! Nonetheless, they forgot. So they told me (quite sheepishly) they got a letter and that they weren't sure what they were supposed to do. And I reminded them and there was a long pause. Then, finally, my mom said, "Well, I did open it .... and you got in!" I wanted to kill her! But I quickly forgave her. I was with my boyfriend and we went out and ate a huge breakfast to celebrate the fact that I had a future!!

Hey Skwattie, I'm pretty local --- I live in Upper Bucks, about 35-40 min from DeSales. Are you local? I'm excited to begin as well! I am actually a senior right now finishing my first degree. I graduate on the 11th and then we have orientation 6 days later! Kind of annoying but exciting. So I guess I'm kind of in the same boat as you --- finishing up my pre-reqs right before we begin. I actually completed one yesterday (took my Human Growth & Development CLEP exam), and I am taking A&P right now. I've started to look into getting textbooks and getting all my clearances and all. Also, I have to get CPR certified. Lots to do but I'm excited about it (for now ... haha) Glad to see someone else here before we meet for real on the 17th!

But for now, I'm seeing how much I can gain from doing this "course" (it's recorded lectures from UC Irvine's Developmental Psych class ... we'll see!). Their point, as I understand it so far, is that we are all at risk ("all" as in the general population) because by failing to give nursing the proper respect it deserves; we risk having hospitals continue to cut nursing positions that are actually needed and therefore any patient is at risk. The chat about the media misrepresenting nursing (i.e. having physicians with such a prevalence at the bedside, i.e. being "physician nurses", on shows like Grey's Anatomy and House) which does no favor for the general public's knowledge of what nurses really do.

Hi All! I was wondering if anyone has read or is reading "Saving Lives: Why the Media's Portrayal of Nurses Puts Us All at Risk" by Sandy and Harry Jacobs Summers. I got a Kindle for Christmas and game across this book. As a student beginning an Accelerated BSN Program in May, it intrigued me. The book is about, as the title suggests, the various ways nurses are (mis)represented in the media. The authors repeatedly correlate these representations to the nursing shortage (the book was published in 2009). I am interested to see if nurses who have read this are rallied behind it or if they think maybe it's a little *too* much. I'd love to start a little discussion about the booK! As a student who never considered nursing for a long time for many of the reasons in this book, it is important to me to be educated about this topic. I actually got in touch with DeSales yesterday and decided to do just that --- I don't have a huge psych background, but considering I planned otherwise on taking the course, I'm just going to teach it to myself, and a professor at my school said she'd be willing to be a resource as well. It seems the exams aren't too too challenging, but what did you think?

Question for you all --- have you completed all your pre-reqs? I'm wondering because I have to schedule Developmental Psych. I have been planning on taking it online this semester (in addition to my regular undergraduate schedule) since my school does not over it for the Life Span But I'd really like to be able to take it with the rest of my courses since I am paying more than enough to take classes there right now and so I do not have to pay additional moolah for a comm. college class. Have any of you taken not exactly Dev. Psych for the Life Span?

Hi sunshyne, I heard back about the program the first week of December via snail mail. It stinks you haven't heard yet but maybe no news is good news!?! Like, if you've been declined, they probably would have sent you a letter saying so already? Just my speculation ... I was accepted and had to let them know by today if I would be attending, so maybe you'll hear more in a second round of admissions? Hope it all works out for you :)

Yes, I am attending! I waited a little bit to decide but ultimately decided to go :) I graduate from my first degree a week before we would start at DeSales so I'm excited but also have so much to do before then, but looking forward to finally starting my nursing degree! I wonder where the rest of us are that have been accepted/are attending?!
