Denver School of Nursing question??

Published

I know there has been some 'drama' about DSON and I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me. As of right now I have a very good chance of getting into EGOS LPN program next year or the ADN program over at Morgan or if I want to really travel CTU's ADN program that starts in 01/07

Well the tihng I am looking at is that with CTU I will have to relocate(which we really dont want if we dont have to) and with Morgan that is also going to be:o Well EGOS is a great program but it is a LPN and I was just told that the price went up to about 9k for the program but of course there is fininicail aid but it is not for sure I will get in Fall 10' but it is looking pretty good. I shortly looked at Platt but there is no way I am going to pay 70k

Well I am debating DSN because I have heard they have gotten finicianal aid now and we wouldn't have to move. Well I was wondering if anyone goes there and about what their payments were(I know it can vary depending on situation but I am just curious) if you dont want to post it you could PM me if you are willing to share the info :)

On my taxes I pretty much has NO income and this year I will have no income but I am also pretty sure b/c they are so expensive it wont cover all of it even with loans.

Any info would be greatly apperiated!! I am going to meet with them on Thursday but I am trying to keep a open mind but I am trying to weigh my options

TIA:up:

did you get your questions answered by someone at the school? I am currently enrolled in the Sallie Mae loan program, and just filled out a FAFSA. I can't really answer your question b/c with the Sallie Mae loan I'm not paying anything until school is finished. Good luck to you!

I am going in to meet with Kelly(I think that is here name I have to look where I wrote it down)

I am hoping to do the Pell grant and then also the Standford loans(government ones) & then pay out of pocket for the rest.

I would not encourage you to pay the DSON costs - considering the job market in Denver (and elsewhere) for new graduate RN's. I would hate to graduate with such a large student loan and not be able to find a job.

That is something to consider. I honestly wouldn't pay the tuition for an ADN degree. I think for a BSN it is pretty competitive with other schools. I am also hoping the job market is better when I graduate in Sept 2010. Hope are you having a hard time finding a job right now? If so I wish you much luck!

This is what I am thinking about from what I have been told is their BSN program is only 5k more then their ADN program so part of me thinks if I do go down that path I should do the BSN program!

I had someone tell me awhile ago that if you dont take out a personal loan(which I am just not going to do I am planning on doing Pell & Standford and then some savings) you are looking at around $1500 a month and that is NOT a option  For that much I will be making a drive up to Morgan

I graduated from a FRCC school (ft collins) 4 years ago. I only had 7k in debt - partly b/c i paid off my car with my student loan b/c of the cheaper interest rate. i got tuition assistance from my employer and worked while going to school. However i didn't get hired on the unit i wanted (even after working as a tech there) they told me they were able to hire experienced nurses......the options for new grads just were really limited. I did get hired on a unit i really didn't want to work on. I ended up relocating out of state and practically got hired on the spot in a rural hospital which has been good experience. I would like to come back to CO in a couple years.

It just seems to me there are so many nsg schools in Northern CO that it creates pretty stiff competition, contrary to what the news media says. That is what I attempt to warn nurses (esp new grads) wanting to relocate to this area. I thought it was just the northern front range towns but now it sounds like it has hit denver and COS too.

And it seems unfair to me that someone should pay 30k+ to go to nsg school when the person going to a CC pays only 2k a semester (or less) for the same education/job opportunities. Yeah i know the wait lists suk but so do outrageous student loans.

Yeah, I think people need to weigh the pros and cons and decide for themselves which route is the best. I am hoping to have a job where I currently work once I graduate. I have already spoken to the new grad residency director and my boss about it. Hopefully the market will pick up again soon and new grads won't have such an issue finding work.
