I think the maximum is 2cc, but you would have to look it up to be sure. Phenergan can be given IM, but I've always given it in a larger muscle (gluteal or thigh)

I believe it's 2-2 1/2 cc. I suppose you could give it in the deltoid, but I think the gluteal or thigh are more comfortable. I generally don't use the deltoid, I feel the bigger muscles are safer.

Okay, this response to the post is 10 years later, but should anyone else require this information ...Deltoid injections should never exceed 1mL. It should only be used for small amounts, generally 0.5mL. Anymore can cause great pain and discomfort as well as injury to the injection site. The deltoid muscle has a small area for injections and caution should be taken as the radial nerve could be damaged if the approriate site isn't located.

I was taught 2cc the max in the deltoid, but would rarely do that much unless there were reasons i had to. As far as Phenergan, sure you could probably give it in the deltoid, but if you have ever had an injection of phenergan you know it hurts like crazy so i would recommend it in the gluteal (or thigh for the younger ones).
