I'm doing my last questions and I'm not aloud to look in my book I'm only supposed to use my resources so if i could get some help with these questions I would be very great full.

Q: Mrs. Jones is a 73 y.o. with Diabetes and hypertension. What diet restrictions and guideline would you anticipate?

Q: Mary is on a high iron diet due to her anemia. she has difficulty chewing and swallowing. What foods could you suggest?

Q: When given a glass of lemonade, Lynne coughs and spits it out suddenly. What would you suspect? what would you suggest to the nurse or dietician that would help Lynne?

I'm shocked if you cannot use your text that your instructor considers asking strangers on an international nursing message board as acceptable. I know the answers to these questions, but I'm no longer a student. Post your thoughts and many will assist and guide you.

A: I would anticipate a sodium-controlled and diabetic meal plan for Mrs. Jones. Some of the guide lines for this would be restricting high sodium foods for the hypertension with a sodium intake of no more than 1500 mg per day. I would also anticipate her to be on a meal plan that made sure she was getting the same amount of carbohydrates, protein, and fat to be eaten at the same time each day. Mrs. Jones would probably also need to limit the amount of sugar she consumed at meals and snacks too. Maintaining a healthy, balanced diet would be important for Mrs. Jones.

Q: When given a glass of lemonade, Lynne coughs and spits it out suddenly. What would you suspect? What could you suggest to the nurse or dietician that would help Lynne?

A: I would suspect that Lynne has dysphasia or that the lemonade is too strong or tart for Lynne making it hard to swallow. I would suggest to the nurse or dietician that maybe a thicker or different type of drink would be better for Lynne.

I would be very surprised if your instructor felt we were a citable resource. We ask ALL students to post what their research has revealed to them first before we jump in to help.

For the patient diet....what are the new recommendations for a ADA diet? Is the DASH diet a sample of this healthy eating? Why is it important to keep the glycemic index down? What about cholesterol? Does this need to be considered separate or is it included in diet plans like DASH, Mediterranean or low glycemic index eating plans.

I think your instructor might wnat a little more of an explanation than the "patient neds a healty diet".
