Delay of Contracted Assignment

After 5 great years of travel, I finally hit a snag...a big snag at that! My company was unaware of a deadline with the hospital to submit my paperwork. Thus, my BLS card that was fax'd in Thursday AM at 8:00 was past the Wednesday deadline of 4PM. My start date was moved back 2 weeks costing me approx. $3,000.00 in wages. Any advice out there for me? Has this happened to anyone else?:angryfire

Sounds like your agency was not on top of things, this is their responsibility and they should be aware of these things as it is in their contract with the facility.

Why was your card not faxed to the facility when they sent in your resume for them to evaluate initially? That is a requirement of many facilities now as they have seen nurses show up that have had expired cards and expected to be able to work that day.

You will need to discuss this with your agency, and see what they will do. It is their ultimate responsibility, not that of the facility.

Was this with the same company that you have worked for, or a new agency?

I had completed 3 or 4 previous assignments with the same company and was in good standing. My BLS was due for renewal...I have a private instructor who accomodates my schedule. My recruiter knew my class was Wednesday evening. I could have done it sooner had I known. My lesson learned? Stay on top of your BLS recert!!:icon_roll

I always focus on getting everything done before anything is submitted to a new facility. Always better to have all things in place ahead of time.

Best of luck on your new assignment.

Very good advice! Especially for you new travellers out there who can learn from our mistakes ;). I think this particular assignment got a little slack because I was returning to the same facility for another assignment and it was less than a year since my last. The good news? The assignment is going very well...they want me to extend.

Glad to hear that everything is working out for you.
