hi everyone!

i have a ba in business administration. needless to say, it hasn't helped me get ahead in my current position. for a year now i have been considering nursing as a career. i am friendly and love to help people. i am now considering schools, and at first thought about the "bigger schools" like jefferson, villanova, and even the accelerated programs at . but, they all cost $30,000 and i know my husb will not agree due to the amount of loan. today, i called the community college, and they said the cost is only $13,000. my question is, will have a problem getting a job in nursing with only an associate degree?

I don't think it matters where you graduate. You have to pass the boards.

Good luck

Specializes in ER.

We actually had this discussion today in class, about BSN Vs ASN and all the other degrees in nursing and 78% of nurses in hospitals today only have their ASN, which suprised me...So I don't think you will have no problem finding a Job! good Luck

Hi again!

Do you recommend any other school besides Delco? Also, do you know of any financial assistance besides LOANS, LOANS and more LOANS?

Well I am from Jersey, and go to school at Jeff... So I am not from the area to know about the community Colleges and how they work.. I know Gloucester County College,NJ, has an ASN program, Camden County,NJ, Lourdes, Philadelphia Community College, Jefferson...I dont know anything about financial assistance besides loans, but look into school to see if they offer any kind of scholarships, so if you sign to work for that hospital they will pay for all or some of your schooling... Jefferson offers one but I am not sure if it is offered to the ASN students.. Hope this helped you a bit

I am not sure where you live but I attend Brandywine school of nursing. It is a good school, the NCLEX rates for the last 2 years have been in the 90's. Reading area community college and harrisburg area community college both have programs too.

Good Luck

I am now a first year at DCCC. There are so many jobs to go around, that no new nurse, regardless of degree, will have a problem with gettign a job. Besides going to DCCC saves lots of money, and once I graduate, I plan on getting my BSN w/in the next year, with my new employer covering about 80 to 90% of the cost. Its beats getting into the field, only to pay back lots in loans.

Specializes in CTICU, Interventional Cardiology, CCU.

I just graduated from DCCC with an AS in Nursing. I actually got my 1st degree in 2002, BS in Criminal Justice from the university of Scranton. I paid out of pocket for my degree from DCCC and it was about 10-12 grand. All I can say is that, it is well worth it. DCCC is one of the best schools in the area outside of a BSN. I am not working in North Jersey on an Interventional Cardiology Floor. The other thing that is also a plus..if you already have a BS in something other than nursing and your become an RN with an AS you can get your Masters in Nursing by doing a bridge program. I am going to to start my MSN classes soon. I still owe alot of money in loans from my scranton degree but the AS from DCCC is paying for my BS..I know that is messed up that my AS is paying for my BS, but sice becomming an RN I can honestly say I love what I do. I loved the Nursing Instructors at DCCC and they really do CARE about you the student! I am the perfect person to ask any questions that you have about DCCC. Good Luck and go for it!
