Hi! I'm a December '05 grad and just signed with an HCA hospital- $19.65/hour with a $3 diff from 3p-7p and a $3 diff for weekends. Not sure about nights, but I think it's around $3-5. However, this particular hospital is expecting a $3/hour across the board raise early next year. I hope so! Plus, $3000 bonus!
Baylor is at $19.50/hour base. I can't remember which hospital it is, but I've seen one offering $23.50/hour base.

If *I* were a new nurse and a hospital was offering a NEW grad a sign-on bonus......I would RUN. The more stable hospitals with better retention are not offering mega sign-on bonuses
There is a local hospital "Hiring 100 Nurses in 100 Days." Really, would you want to work somewhere that has 100 nurses that are new to that particular system ? Would you want to be a patient there ? I'm thinking I wouldn't.
I understand what you're trying to say, but virtually every hospital in DFW (Baylor, THR, and HCA) is offering a sign-on bonus. The hospital you're referring to has an excellent reputation. DFW is growing at a crazy rate- faster than almost anywhere in America- and if resorting to hiring new nurses helps fill the void, it is still better than taxing out and overextending more experienced nurses.
Yes, many of the hospitals do offer some type of bonus for a sign on....however, there is also a stipulation regarding how much time you have to "give" them in return. I graduated in 12/04 and of my friends who went to work at the hospitals with bonuses....50% of them are now paying those bonuses back because they've found that they're either not happy with the hospital or the specialty they chose.....I'd much rather not be "beholden" to anyone.

Perhaps a better solution would be to offer RETENTION bonuses to keep and maintain good nurses instead of having an onslaught of new RN's and/or nurses hopping around to get the bonuses ?

I agree w/that. I know that Baylor does offer both a sign-on and retention bonus... But they're all located too far from where I currently live- which is a shame b/c I really wanted to work there.
As far as the hospital you're referring to, that's what I've heard, but I don't have initmate experience there. I was offered a job there as well and they're close to where I'm moving next year (Aledo), so I was considering a transfer. I'm currently at an HCA hospital, which I swore I would never do anyway... lol. Will you PM me and tell me why I should stay away from there??? I really don't want to end up somewhere that is horrible!

Yeah, 2 years for me. But my bonus is being paid out over time so I've already allotted a payback if I have to! Are there any hospitals around DFW that don't offer a bonus, though?

I was wondering if some of the Dec 06 grads will share their job offers. The latest salary numbers I have are about $20/hr in Austin/Dallas with $1-$5 differentials for nights and weekends and $23-25 in Houston with approx $5 night diff and $1 weekend diff. Good luck to those still waiting!
