Things have improved at work since my last post , except for one thing the receptionist who gets labs off the fax has a habit of running up to me and saying things like you need to call this person look at these labs, the WBC is elevated or whatever( when i had alredy dealt with the issue.Today was the last straw as I'm leaving she comes up to me with a hgb A1c that was in limits but on the high end of normal( I was in my car leaving) I looked at it and said it's fine, she said no it says she is at risk, then asked if she should call the pt and let them know. No I told her I will deal with it tomorrow and you and I are going to have a talk. The problem is that she thinks she knows it all and gets very offended if called on something. But I have to deal with het tomorrow and need to find a polite way to tell her to let the nurses and I handle it

I would tell her just that: we (nursing staff) will handle labs. Thanks for your assistance but that's not your job.

Absolutely. And there should be a written policy that no one (clinical staff or otherwise) can discuss test results with a patient unless/until the ordering provider has viewed them and expressly instructed the staff person to do so.
