Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I have a couple questions for you guys. I have went through most of the threads and have a few concerns.

Did anyone ever have trouble with local hospitals allowing clinicals?

Does this college qualify you for Student Loans/Grants?

What is the typical cost?

Thanks!

Nursygirls,

You really need to call the CA BON to be sure...From what I have been told, a Deaconess student licensed in another state can receive reciprocity in CA. But I also saw a post on this board a while back from a CA student who said CA would not allow the precepted clinicals needed for the Deaconess program because of state guidelines. Now where that information came from and how accurate it is, I do not know.

The best way to find out is to call the BON. Good Luck and let us know what you find out.

Thanks so much! Hopefully, I will find something out that is concrete. I hear alot in speculation, innuendo and rumor. Too bad someone can't just come out and say "This is acceptable and this isn't." But, then that would be just way to easy!!! I will keep you posted as to what the CA BRN says when I call them tomorrow. Time is wasting away and I feel like I am spinning my wheels in this d**n state!!

Hi Anjanette,

Before you call make sure to gather information about the program so that if they ask you you'll know what to say such as the program is not 100% online since we have Validations (Clinical with the instructors) each semester in St. Louis and then there are the Clinical with your preceptor as well. I'm sorry CA isn't too keen on Distance Education for Nursing but if it's any consolation I can tell you that there use to be a girl from San Diego in my class last semester but unfortunately she failed the same class twice so she was dismissed from the program.

LTNurse-

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. You would think that with such a shortage, there would be people lining up to take LVNs money to become RN's. LVNs aren't stupid------Thanks for the reminder about validations and clinicals. If I actually get to speak with someone from the BRN tomorrow, I will be sure to tell them that Deaconess has validations and clinicals, plus preceptorships. Maybe that will make a difference. I hope so. I would hate to have to take a leave of absence from work and my family to get an education in another state! :crying2: Why must it be so hard?! haha!

Have a great day! I will keep you posted!
